No 2.36...Anger And Agony At The Loss Of Anne |
Size about H48in W36in (
H122cm W91cm) Dated: 14-4-98 Medium: Acrylic on reinforced hardboard Price: £2,400 or $3360 My mother will be horrified to think that I took it from a picture of her but I did. In the event it also looks a bit like me (which is not surprising as I look a bit like her) which is good as the picture is called "Anger And Agony At The Loss Of Our Dear Anne" or something similar. The photograph below was taken at my sister's funeral and expresses complex emotions. There is certainly anger. The strained smile is also a grimace of agony at the loss of a child and best friend. There are few more awful things to have to face as a parent than having to bury your child and it does not matter how old she is. That agony is a tapeworm in the gut that can never be eradicated |

Now this is also a picture of a person whose spirit is unquenchable. This is a picture of someone who notwithstanding great hardship and personal loss maintains the most optimistic stance to life. This is a person who whenever asked what were the best years of her life has always answered: "The last two years". This is my mother. | |
